When you travel down familiar roads but choose to go a little further, you discover nearby specialties.
Although our guests had previously visited Hahndorf, the request was made to return for a second visit to the Aboriginal Art House gallery so that Doug could purchase a piece he had viewed before Christmas.
With painting in hand, we ventured out of Hahndorf down the main road. Within a couple Kilometers we came across the famous Beerenberg Farm. While many visitors came to PYO strawberries (Pick Your Own) from the patch across the road, we stuck with the farm shop and sampled jams, preserves and sauces. Yummy!
We continued down the road in search of cellar doors open on Sundays. We discovered Howard Vineyard, cellar door and cafe. On this splendid sunny afternoon we were greeted with live music in the courtyard and a chance to sample some of the featured wines inside the converted barn. It was a delightful introduction to Adelaide Hills wines and views.
We carried on down the road and instead of visiting the town of Mount Barker we headed up the hill to the Mount Barker Summit. Despite the scorching weather, the panorama of the valleys and hills was worth the 5 minutes without air conditioning.
After a busy day of touring, we headed into the City to celebrate with our guests at the recently opened, Jamie’s Italian. The entrees were very tasty, the mains a little disappointing, the desserts sweet and the washrooms very unique!
We ended our day with a peaceful stroll along the river Torrens before catching the sunset at Mount Lofty. Quite the day to discover new places just down the road!
Another great day! Hard to come back to minus double digits. ;-(
Hopefully the memories will warm you up! 🙂
